Description

A comforting, autumn-inspired chili that blends lean ground turkey with the crisp sweetness of fresh apples. This hearty dish is elevated by warm spices like cumin and smoked paprika, making it a sophisticated yet healthy meal perfect for chilly evenings. With kidney beans for added texture and nutrition, this recipe is easy to make and tastes even better the next day, serving as the ultimate family-friendly weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

2 lbs ground turkey
2 crisp apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled and diced
1 large yellow onion, finely diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
2 cups chicken bone broth
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Heat the olive oil in your Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
Add the ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spatula for about 6–8 minutes.
Add the diced onions to the turkey and sauté for 5 minutes until translucent.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Stir in the chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika, coating the turkey mixture evenly.
Add the diced apples, crushed tomatoes, and chicken broth, then bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Stir in the kidney beans and cook for an additional 5 minutes until heated through.
Season with salt and pepper to taste before serving.

Notes

Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
Texture: If you prefer a thicker chili, smash a few of the beans against the side of the pot during the final simmer.
Flavor Boost: Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice right before serving to brighten the savory notes.
