Ingredients
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease your 9×9 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, lemon juice, and cinnamon until evenly coated, then spread into the prepared baking dish.
In a separate medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Use a pastry blender or two forks to cut the cold, cubed butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples, pressing down very lightly with your hands.
Bake for 40 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling around the edges.
Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Keep leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the microwave or oven. For a nuttier crunch, feel free to add 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the oat topping mixture.
