Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
Stir in the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until a shaggy dough forms.
Gradually add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough back into a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
Punch the dough down, divide into 12 equal pieces, and shape them into smooth balls.
Place the balls in a greased 9×13 inch pan, cover, and let rise for 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F while rolls undergo their second rise.
Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
Brush the tops with extra melted butter for a glossy finish.
Notes
Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Temperature Check: Ensure your milk is warm but not hot (above 120°F can kill the yeast). Make Ahead: You can place the shaped rolls in the fridge overnight; let them come to room temperature before baking the next day. Garlic Herb Variation: Brush with butter mixed with garlic powder and dried parsley after baking.
