It is a crowd-pleasing, comforting classic that is sure to become a staple at your family dinners and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1 cup pecans, roughly chopped

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Place cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil.
Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the sweet potatoes are fork-tender.
Drain the potatoes well and return them to the pot.
Add the melted butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the potatoes and mash until smooth and creamy.
Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, cold cubed butter, and pecans.
Use a fork to mix the topping ingredients until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and bubbling.

Notes

Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven to ensure the topping remains crunchy.
Substitutions: If you are out of pecans, walnuts make a fantastic, equally crunchy substitute.
Advance Prep: You can mash the potatoes and store them in the fridge a day early; just add the topping right before baking.
