Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, and molasses until smooth.
Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, whisking until the batter is glossy.
Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture using a spatula until just combined.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 22–25 minutes until the edges are set but the center remains slightly soft.
Cool completely in the pan before slicing into 12 squares.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or refrigerate for 1 week for a fudgier texture. Add 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts or pecans if desired. For cleaner slices, chill the brownies in the fridge for one hour before cutting.
