Ingredients
8 slices thick-cut bread (brioche, challah, or Texas toast)
4 large eggs
3/4 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons heavy cream or extra milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon fine salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter (divided)
Maple syrup (for serving)
Fresh berries, sliced bananas, or powdered sugar (optional toppings)
Instructions
Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a shallow bowl until smooth and lightly foamy
Place a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon butter
Dip bread slices into the custard mixture for 5 seconds per side
Cook each soaked slice in the skillet for 2-3 minutes per side until golden and set
Use remaining butter for subsequent batches
Serve with maple syrup and optional toppings
