Description

Golden, custardy French toast with cinnamon and vanilla served warm with fresh berries and maple syrup. Quick weeknight or holiday breakfast idea using 10 minutes total.


Ingredients

8 thick slices day-old bread
4 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla powder
1/4 teaspoon fine salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
Fresh berries
Maple syrup
Powdered sugar (optional)


Instructions

Crack eggs into a shallow bowl. Add milk, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla powder, and salt. Whisk 30-45 seconds
Heat skillet over medium. Add 1 tbsp butter until melted
Dip 1 bread slice in custard for 5 seconds per side
Cook 2-3 slices in skillet 2-3 minutes per side until golden
Repeat in batches, adding remaining butter as needed
Serve with fresh berries, maple syrup, and optional powdered sugar

Notes

Use day-old bread with thick slices (brioche or soft sandwich bread recommended)
Serve immediately for golden crisp edges
Apply maple syrup before powdered sugar to prevent clumping
Store uneaten slices in airtight container up to 24 hours
